Ennio Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television as well as over 100 absolute music works and is one of only two film composers in history to have received the honorary Academy Award for his lifetime achievement. Highlights include his scores for Once Upon a Time in the West, One Upon a time in America, A Fistful of Dollars, The Untouchables and The Mission. Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly holds the number two position in the Top 200 ranking of best film soundtracks ever composed.
In 2016, the internationally renowned Italian film composer has started a large-scale world tour, with a completely new program to mark his 60-year anniversary as a professional composer and conductor. The hugely successful arena tour has since seen the Maestro perform more than 40 concerts in 30 European cities. Across the continent the tour received standing ovations and overwhelming critical acclaim in the media. In August 2017, Maestro Morricone received an award from his concert GEA Live for selling more than 500.000 tickets for his tour.
In 2016, Morricone composed and recorded the score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, for which he received universal praise, including his long awaited Academy Award for Best Original Score, his sixth BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, and his third Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
That same year, Ennio Morricone also reunited with director Giuseppe Tornatore on romantic drama The Correspondence, starring Jeremy Irons. Its release was exactly 30 years after the 1986 release of “The Mission”, which also starred Irons. Morricone and Tornatore had previously collaborated on Cinema Paradiso, Malèna, The Legend of 1900, Baaria and The Best Offer.

Discussing his new forthcoming tour, Morricone said:
“Performing my work live in all these different cities for people of so many different ages and cultural backgrounds is an incredibly gratifying experience. This year I celebrate my professional career of 60 Years during which I composed over 600 works”.
“On this tour I perform a whole new program with new highlights. Of course there will always be the classic pieces from the great Sergio Leone westerns and The Mission. But overall the experience will be different this time. I plan to include music from my collaboration with Quentin Tarantino as well as a few works from the Leone Westerns that I have not included on previous tours. ”
Recently the Maestro also conducted a very special mass dedicated to Pope Franciscus in Rome. The mass was a one-off composition, for which he was commissioned by the Jesuit Order to commemorate the 200-year anniversary of their reformation in 1814 by Pope Pius VII. It was performed at the Jesuit Church of Gesù in Rome at Piazza del Gesù.
The 60 Years of Music World Tour premiered in Prague on January 15th 2016, and has since been to more than 40 European cities. Prague is home to Morricone’s beloved Czech National Symphony Orchestra, which accompanied the Maestro on his previous international tours and which recorded with him for major international motion pictures including the 2013 release of The Best Offer by Giuseppe Tornatore, for which Ennio Morricone received the European Film Award in the category “Best Composer”. As with previous tours, the production features over 200 musicians and singers on stage.
